The Journey to My Father, cont.
The Catholic Church of San Lorenzo della Costa dates to the 13th century and Father Cuneo's time in it through most of this century. It has seen war since its inception, and some of the damage from WWII is still visible, either as repairs or actual damage.

The interior of the church-impressive for a small mountain village.
The Trittico di S Andrea painted in 1499 makes this church special.
Almost everything that went on was in Italian and only quickly translated by Marcello when he had the chance. I have vowed to learn the language and return. The following account of the events of April 26, 1945, is from research by Marcello and written in Fr. Cuneo's history of the church "Briciole di Storie." It is reproduced here by permission and in Italian only. I have not yet translated it.
The cover. The Italian text follows
telling the story of the day in April of 1945
that claimed my dad's life and the lives of two "Tankers."
